“The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot” by Brand New

If it makes you less sad, I’ll move out of this state
You can keep to yourself, I’ll keep out of your way
And if it makes you less sad, I’ll take your pictures all down
Every picture you paint, I will paint myself out
It’s cold as a tomb, and it’s dark in your room
When I sneak to your bed to pour salt in your wounds
So call it quits, or get a grip
You say you wanted a solution; you just wanted to be missed

“Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis” by Brand New

Barely conscious in the door where you stand. Your eyes are fighting sleep while your mouth makes your demands. You laugh at every word, trying hard to be cute. I almost feel sorry for what I’m gonna do.

Band of The Decade As Chosen By Aaron Long

Brand New

It’s often dangerous to hold a band you love up. To put so much stock in what they do, and so much hope for what they will do next, but at each point in the evolution of Brand New they have lived up to and surpassed those expectations. It could simply be that me, and the others who dwell within the cult of Brand New happen to come upon the band at a time when their music spoke to us, when it was really what we needed to hear. It could be that over the last ten years, as we matured, they matured and as we grew deeper, they grew deeper. No matter how you slice it, longevity is the hardest thing for a band to accomplish, and while a decade might pale in comparison to some of the dinosaurs who still trot themselves out on tour for a massive payday, to a generation with an ever shortening attention span and a constant pipe-line to what’s new and next, Brand New’s music has managed to make genuine connections with people, and in the end that is the most you can ever get out of any music.

*I’m not sure ‘Best Band of the Decade’ is the term I would go with. More like ‘Favorite Band of the Decade’. I continue to think that The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me is a masterpiece.
