Peter Weller Cast as Batman In DC’s Animated ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ Movie

I never thought DC would actually complete their animated version of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ and quietly sweep it under-the-carpet, but it looks like it is actually happening. The voice cast of the film has been announced with Peter Weller as Batman headlining the movie and Ariel Winter (Modern Family) will play Robin. As much as Kevin Conroy is my go-to animated Batman voice, Peter Weller is a great choice to voice the grizzled version of Bruce Wayne in this story. DC remains coy on who will voice the Joker. My guess is Mark Hamill might reprise the role of The Joker with this being such a high profile animated project, even though he’s said he’s done playing that role, yet continues to play that role. The animated version of ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ will be splint into two films with the first part being released this fall.

Tom Wilson, BIFF from Back to the Future gets asked a lot of questions. So he wrote a card that he can give out that answers them all.

‘Beasts Of The Southern Wild’ Trailer

*Looks like an epic childhood fantasy. Can’t wait.

With a quickly approaching June 27 release, Beasts Of The Southern Wild seems poised to capitalize on its recent Sundance buzz before everyone forgets all the nice things they said about it (and just in case they did, this trailer puts a lot of them up front). Not that Beasts is at all forgettable: Not only did it take the Grand Jury Prize easily, audiences and critics were fairly bowled over by writer-director Benh Zeitlin’s unusual blend of the fantastic and the all-too-commonplace in his tale of a young poverty-stricken girl living in a sunken Louisiana swampland and her fight to survive the ever-looming apocalypse. Our own Noel Murray called it “something extraordinary: like a live-action Miyazaki film, with Days Of Heaven narration,” which, while probably too erudite for a pull-quote, is quite the ringing endorsement—and he didn’t even mention the giant boar creatures. Anyway, as it was at Sundance, Beasts is likely to be one of the more unusual and talked-about movies you’ll see this year, and here’s your first taste. (Apple also has it in HD.)

‘Your Sister’s Sister’ Trailer

And then there was Your Sister’s Sister, where a rugged exterior and sensitive interior lead the audience to believe two sisters, played by Emily Blunt and Rosemarie Dewitt, can fall for him in the midst of a tragedy. That would be a struggle for any actor but Mark Duplass pulls it off (in both films really) and ultimately is the heart of a unique romantic comedy.

Directed by Lynn Shelton,Your Sister’s Sister will be released June 15. The film avoids the typical romantic comedy tropes, instead focusing on authentic characters and unpredictable reality framed in a classic love triangle.

*Really digging this cast. Looks solid.

‘LOOPER’ Teaser Trailer

*So incredibly stoked for this flick. Rian Johnson + JGL + time travel = WOW.

Time travel will be invented, but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper”—a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)—is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. the film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

‘Total Recall’ Trailer

Phil Dick is my favorite author, so I’ll watch any of the movies based off his stories, even if they’re shit. But Total Recall (based on We Can Remember It for You Wholesale) doesn’t look that bad. Granted, so far it seems to be a shot-for-shot remake of the 1990 version. The original was pretty campy, which this version seems to be avoiding, so I’m hoping it turns out OK. But like I said, even if Total Recall is total shit, I’ll still see it and love it.
